How to Cook Lobster Tails

There are a variety of ways to cook lobster tail. They can be boiled, baked, steamed, or grilled. The choice is up to you. Here are some tips to help you.

Boiled Lobster Tails

  • Fill a large dutch oven with water.
  • Add a couple of teaspoons of salt.
  • Bring water to boil over high heat.
  • Drop the lobster tails into the boiling water.
  • Cook one minute for each pound. (Forinstance, 2 pound lobster tail equals 2 minutes boiling.)
  • When done, remove lobster tail and drain on paper towel.
  • Serve as desired.

Baked Lobster Tails
  • Preheat oven to 400°F
  • Cut the underside of the lobster tail in half lengthways with a sturdy knife.
  • Place the lobster tails on a baking tray and brush them with melted butter.
  • Bake for about 8-10 minutes.
  • Serve as desired.

Steamed lobster tails (many prefer this method)
  • Pour 1-2” water into large dutch oven.
  • Place steamer basket over water.
  • Place lobster tails on steamer basket.
  • Bring water to boil. Cover.
  • Make certain that the water does not boil over lobster tails.
  • Steam lobster tail for about 15 minutes.
  • The shell will be bright red and meat bright white when done.
  • Drain and serve.

Grilled Lobster Tails
  • Cut the underside of the lobster tail in half lengthways with a sturdy knife.
  • Brush underside with melted butter.
  • Place the lobster tails on a preheated grill, shell side down.
  • Grill for about 8-10 minutes, until done.
  • The meat will be a bright white when done.
